Still a family business

Our History / 21st Century / Still a family business

Pollards is believed to be one of the oldest print companies in the UK, and it remains family owned. According to the Institute for Family Businesses, such firms survive over generations because of: ‘strong values, responsible capitalism, commitment to local communities, loyalty of staff and taking long-term perspectives on investment’ (see ifb.org.uk). These things ring true for Pollards and have been sustained in recent years by the successive leadership of Michael and Anne, Andrew and Ben Pollard and by the commitment of the broader family – particularly at key transitions. A younger generation of the family is in the wings. However, since Michael Pollard retired, the company has benefited enormously from long-serving professional managers, such as our present MD, David Mace A.C.M.A and from non-executive directors such as Dennis Mason.
