The company began again. Now working from a Nissan Hut set up on the bomb site, machinery and type were borrowed or bought. Thanks to the support of committed staff, sympathetic customers and other Exeter printers, the business gradually developed again. In 1954, a replacement factory was opened and in 1958 a Shareholders’ Agreement established Michael Pollard, son of Herbert, as Managing Director. He was enormously helped by his wife Anne whose investment enabled ownership to be clarified. She also contributed very significantly to the values of the business. Investment in new presses picked up. Although Heidelberg’s small offset litho machines were only launched in 1962, they were favoured because of their build quality and production flexibility.
